| DSL Announce Decommissioning Work for Talisman |
08 November 2010 |
 |
New Decom North Sea member Derrick Services (UK) Ltd (DSL) is currently working on the Talisman Auk decommissioning project.
The contract involves removing the drilling derrick and substructure, and using approximately a dozen multi-disciplined and OPITO qualified staff, DSL is currently half way through the six month contract.
Mike Smith, Managing Director at DSL, said: “The Talisman Auk project is the latest in a successful track record of drilling package decommissioning on platforms both in the North Sea and overseas by DSL. It further confirms our ability to support the decommissioning of oil and gas facilities.”
DSL is one of only a few companies that offer the provision of derrick decommissioning work with a floating ginpole and this has been utilised for the Talisman Auk project.
The floating ginpole is a specialist piece of equipment that is ideal for derrick erection, decommissioning or modification. It is a very cost effective alternative when the use of barge cranes is not possible or is too expensive, allowing dismantling of the derrick piece by piece on site.
Overseas, DSL has most recently worked on the decommissioning of CTF Rig 05 offshore Tunisia, followed by the upgrade and modification of this rig to be installed onto another installation, which DSL then project managed and provided onsite expertise for. DSL is an industry leader supporting drilling contractors and operators worldwide and is the UK’s only API 4F licensed company for the design and manufacturing of drilling structures.
DSL is committed to providing a diverse range of services and innovative solutions to the oil and gas industry. These include derrick inspection, drilling package decommissioning, derrick assembly and outfitting, rope access trades personnel, in-house engineering, design, fabrication and procurement.
The company employs over 100 staff and have UK offices in Aberdeen and Great Yarmouth, as well as worldwide in UAE, Singapore and Brazil and reported a turnover of £15million in 2009.

| Derrick Services (UK) Ltd Announces Contract Wins at ADIPEC |
08 November 2010 |
 |
Oil & Gas industry construction company Derrick Services (UK) Ltd (DSL), who is currently exhibiting at ADIPEC, has announced that it has secured significant contracts in the Middle East and North Africa.
DSL expanded into the Middle East a year ago with a base in Abu Dhabi serving the Middle East. It is about to open an additional operation in Algeria to serve client demand.
The company has been awarded a contract worth $3million from CTF of Tunisia for the engineering and project planning for the decommissioning of the CTF Rig 05 from Platform 2. This contact award comes on the back of recent FEED studies carried out by DSL for the Operators Serept/OMV and decommissioning of the rig, including the mud systems, bulk storage and prime movers, and is expected to commence in December 2010.
DSL Managing Director Mike Smith said: “Having decommissioned and relocated this rig for CTF in 2008, we are delighted that CTF have again chosen DSL to provide the engineering, project management and planning for this project, as well as the anticipated supply of all the offshore construction services associated with both the decommissioning and relocation of the rig to the next platform.
“This type of project enables DSL to perfectly demonstrate the full range of services that we have in house for supporting offshore construction projects such as this. We have developed strong working relationships with CTF and Serept/OMV through previous projects and we are very excited about further strengthening those relationships on this project.”
DSL has also recently been awarded a contract for ENAFOR in Algeria for the inspection and recertification of their Land Drilling Rigs as well as a similar deal by Abu Dhabi’s National Drilling Company (NDC), via DSL’s sponsor Emirates Link, covering nearly 30 offshore and onshore rigs in the Middle East.
Mr Smith added: “We will shortly be opening an office in Hassi Messoud to support our inspection and recertification contracts in-country. This approach ensures the highest safety standards are followed and offers a cost-effective option for operators and major sub-contractors.’’
DSL is exhibiting at ADIPEC on the EIC UK pavilion, stand 09001F. Abu Dhabi-based project engineer Rajesh Pujary will be joined by Managing Director Mike Smith and Local Manager Singapore Ryan Moore.

DSL has been awarded a contract by Talisman to decommission its drilling facilities on the Auk Platform in the North Sea, having successfully decommissioned the derrick in 2009. Work will start immediately with the engineering phase of the dismantling process closely followed by the commencement of the dismantling process offshore. This project is the latest in a successful track record of drilling package decommissioning on platforms both in the North Sea and overseas by DSL that further confirms our ability to support the decommissioning of oil and gas facilities.
