DSL’s continued investment in training and competency has been further recognised with the approval of its Competence Management System for Derrick Technicians by OPITO.
The OPITO approval comes on the back of DSL’s achievement of gaining API & IADC status as an approved training academy for ‘Derrick Technicians’ earlier this year. The combined API, OPITO and IADC training and competency establishes DSL personnel, all of which will go through this training and competency assessment, as both the highest qualified and only qualified derrick technicians in the Industry to date, Worldwide.
The OPITO Oil and Gas Academy have developed a set of best practice criteria, which enables companies existing Competence Management Systems (CMS) to be benchmarked, evaluated and approved against.
In light of DSL’s OPITO achievement, in relation to their Derrick Technician Competence qualification, Mike Smith (DSL’s Managing Director) states “gaining this approval is independent confirmation that the DSL Management System used to ensure competence of our Derrick Technicians is of the highest standard, providing our customers with the confidence that the training and competency of DSL Derrick Technicians is the best available in the Industry today”.
There are a multitude of benefits of having an effective CMS such as improved staff motivation and productivity, encouraged staff ownership due to development, reduced frequency and severity of incidents and accidents, reduce costs and gives the business process an added value.
